You have decided whether you want a blog or website.  Next you need to figure out whether to use HTML or WordPress.

WordPress.org is a content management system and it is open source  which means it is free to use.  It was originally used for blogs but as years past people are using it to make a regular website.  WordPress has themes that you can choose from.  They have free ones and of course their are some you can buy.

WordPress has a WordPress.com component which means you can sign up at WordPress.com and do not have to pay for hosting.  You can go to the site and start making web pages or you can start blogging.  You are not permitted to do any advertising on Wordpress.com.  You can make a website or blog but no selling of products.  The best thing to do is read the terms of service so you understand all the  rules of the website.

WordPress.com is called a hosted site.  WordPress.org is called a self hosted site.  In other words you need to have a hosting service to install the wordpress software.  You can sell your products on a self hosted wordpress  site.

You can also use HTML to build your website.  HTML is an abbreviation for hypertext mark up language.

You have either HTML4.0 or XHTML orHTML5 to choose from.  The XHTML stands for extensible hypertext markup language.

HTML5 is the latest and the most advanced features.

Now you have this is what is called Cascading Style Sheets or CSS. CSS3 is the latest and greatest.  CSS3 goes with HTML5.

Cascading Style Sheets is a formatting type language that makes the HTML elements display in different styles and colors.

So again, I would go to Youtube.com and search for how to do HTML5 and CSS3.

Also go to youtube.com and search how to make a wordpress website.

Then you can compare which way you want to go html or wordpress.
