So you picked out a domain name and you picked out a hosting company. Now you need to decide is it going to be a blog or a website.
A blog is like a journal. The blog entries are dated and you write it on the subject you are interested in. You probably need to write a blog entry two to five times a week. This means your subject needs to be big enough because writing that much content in a week you will write an amount equal to a full length book in a year.
Your blog can have different categories within it. So you would have some variety on what to write about.
You can sell items on your blog, on the sidebar using links. So you could possibly make some money blogging.
I guess it would be fair to say you probably would need to be the kind of person who likes to write.
Now for a website. you would need to plan and write out each page. So a lot of planning needs to take place. Here are some examples of pages you would need to have; home page, privacy page, terms of use page, about us page, and product pages to list just a few.
It is not as much writing as a blog would be, but you would need to do a lot of planning.
Now with a blog, you need to know what you are going to say that day. As opposed to have to plan out the whole website at once.
So as usual you need to go online and look at some blogs in your line of business. Then decide on what you want to do.
Now if you are selling just products, naturally it would be a website. But would it? If you want a blog entry for each product you sell. Of course each of your blog entries would be dated. You could go into a lot of detail on each item.
So the decision is do I like to write or am I a good planner.
This is part of the process that everyone needs to go through. That is why being a good researcher helps when learning about building a website.
